Thank you all so much. Just removing " solved case and when testing on series of images it confirmed my impression. Getting info from histogram gives better results (for me) than use of simple color reduction.

If you want to keep quality to 100 option `-sampling-factor 1x1` doesn't matter much but is always good thing to include it when dealing with JPGs.

Simple `-unsharp` will do miracles when downsizing. Parameters you have to choose according to your taste. For me `1x1` is good enough although some ...

Ups sorry. Between 5 and 6 - use PS Color layer blending mode Color (in IM jargon: compositing mode - Colorize) to blend two layers.
