Thanks! I'll fix it.
Another good reason to try the betas!

Re: Change in SetImageBackgroundColor in 6.4.9-0 beta
My description was incomplete. Here's a reproduction. At 6.4.9 the following program prints: $ ./none ImageMagick 6.4.9-0 2009-01-31 Q16 http://www.imagemagick.org name is #000000000000 matte is 0 At 6.4.8 it prints $ ./none ImageMagick 6.4.8-9 2009-01-24 Q16 http://www.imagemagick.org name is #0000...

Change in SetImageBackgroundColor in 6.4.9-0 beta
RMagick creates a new image by caling AcquireImage, then calls SetImageBackgroundColor to set the background color. In 6.4.8 and earlier, if the background color is "none" then the alpha channel is activated. I notice that in the 6.4.9-0 beta the alpha channel is not activated and I have t...

I installed the beta and now the test produces the expected output. I passed along the good news to the RMagick user. Thanks for the quick turnaround!

Re: GIF crop problem
I guess I'm confused. The way I read the OP's question, GIF animations are not involved, just a single-frame GIF. What did I overlook?

Stroking and filling text with a pattern in MVG
An RMagick user reports a problem rendering text using a solid color stroke of width 3 and a pattern fill. I've reproduced it using just MVG and convert. Notice that the stroke does not appear on some letters in the bottom row of text. I'm not using my regular machine tonight so my IM install is a b...

Re: 6.4.8-6 Problem with opacity in MVG
I see the opacity problem is fixed in 6.4.8-7. Thanks! However the type rendering is still broken. The following MVG program produces this image in 6.4.7-10: http://home.roadrunner.com/~foxhunter/test_6.4.7-10.gif but produces this image in 6.4.8-6: http://home.roadrunner.com/~foxhunter/test_6.4.8-6.gif Actually I don't think this problem was in 6.4.8-5 but I don't have that version installed to ...

Re: Any Windows build changes since 6.4.5-3?
Okay, I built RMagick with Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition and it seems to be playing well with ImageMagick 6.4.8-6 and (knock wood) with Ruby, too. This gives me some breathing room to work on the MinGW/MSYS approach.
Thanks for the tip!
